Careers

We're hiring

We are currently on the lookout for an experienced senior UX design consultant and business development manager to join our growing team. Think you've got the chops to work with us and our high profile clients? Then drop us a line to introduce yourself.

Senior UX design consultant

Thirst Studios are a respected, growing UX design team based in central Melbourne. We're on the look-out for a talented UX design consultant with a passion for researching and designing elegant, useful digital experiences to join our friendly, close-knit team of dedicated designers, thinkers, problem solvers and technologists.

You're an exceptional team player, fluent in current UX best practices and love nothing more than cracking the code to a complex design challenge. Something of an all-rounder, you are as comfortable conducting qualitative user testing sessions and running research workshops as you are solving complex design problems, constructing wireframes and developing clickable prototypes. You're passionate about all things 'UX' and cry a little bit inside when you see things in the world that are the result of thoughtless interaction design.

The key responsibilities of this role

  • Architect effective, delightful and highly usable solutions for clients.
  • Engage with stakeholders and users to understand the wants and needs of our clients and their audience.
  • Participate in and drive the iterative design process, including research, testing, brainstorming, sketching, wire framing, prototyping and validating design decisions.
  • Collaborate and brainstorm with our project managers, UI designers and developers to define the best way to approach a problem and collectively increase design quality to deliver consistent experiences.
  • Communicate proposed design solutions clearly to the team.
  • Be involved in projects from start-to-finish, to ensure that the original user needs (and client needs) are met, and not overlooked by the end of the project.
  • Stay on top of best-in-class interactive design trends, methods and technologies.
  • Accurately quote UX, design and consulting work, anticipating risks and issues up front; then deliver to your estimates where applicable.

Your skills and qualities

  • 3-5 years professional experience with web and mobile products.
  • A passion for solving complex design problems with simple, elegant solutions.
  • A solid understanding of user-centred UX design principles and the interactive development process, including content strategy, navigation structures, information architecture, interaction design, visual design and web/mobile technologies.
  • A strong team player with a great work ethic and good sense of humour (our culture is really important to us).
  • Comfortable working as part of a team or alone, as the job requires, and happy to take initiative when support isn't immediately available.
  • A dab hand creating UX deliverables such as personas, storyboards, wireframes, user stories, and high-fidelity design specifications.
  • Proficiency designing and conducting qualitative user testing to gain customer insights and optimise the user experience.
  • Able to effectively communicate research findings, designs, and design rationale.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group - executives, managers, subject matter experts, developers.
  • Skilled at rapid, iterative design and prototyping, following Lean Startup/Lean UX principles.
  • Expertise with the usual design tools such as OmniGraffle, Balsamiq, Photoshop, Axure etc.
